Channel 4’s Celebrity Trash Monsters!

Well this was a very last minute but fun job to design. 💥🪡🎬👍🧵✂️

Myself and my team were asked to jump on board to design & create bespoke “trash-suits” for Channel 4 celebrity trash monsters last year, staring Kerry Katona, John Barnes & Jodie Kidd. 🎬

We had just over a week to design, source sustainable/recycled materials, build and deliver three custom trash-suits. 💥

Myself & my assistant Karl worked round the clock to put these suits together from scratch. Obviously the most important aspect of the outfits were that they were practical, hard wearing & made predominantly from eco-friendly materials.

But I also wanted them to feel vaguely stylish. For some reason I was really inspired by the costumes from the original 1980s Ghost Busters movie. I hadn’t watched it in years! But as I was talking to the producers about the project, these visuals of the ghost buster kept popping into my mind. I like the idea of using a similar colour palette and shape. I mean, trash collecting and capturing ghosts are two different things.. but hey! Its all for the greater good!
We made three 100% cotton boiler suits with button fastenings. We then used a recycled black Velcro which was stitched onto the suits to create a base attachment for the sacks to be attached to. This also was a chance for us to make the suits feel a little more stylised. Anchor hooks were added to stabilise the trash bags & to allow additional bags to be added.
the bags themselves were made from a heavy duty recycled plastic. We added drawstrings to the top of each bag to keep the trash contained. These also had velcro on to allow a sturdy attachment to the suits.

We were really pleased with how they turned out in the end. Especially considering the limited time we had to pull it off.
There are some photos and designs below of the process and the suits on our celebs on the show.

I always love the fact that in this industry no two jobs are ever the same & you truly never know what you’ll be asked to do!
